I found Cardean Mill in 1985, and that was the start of my dream. It was a derelict and neglected ruin. I took my wife to see it and told her that I wanted to undertake the restoration myself. Pigeons had been living in the ruins undisturbed for years, and the place was full of their pooh. I recall drawing a line through this pooh indicating where my wife's and my bedroom would be.

Some years later, Cardean Water Mill is alive and kicking, winning prizes and numerous accolades. I really would like you to come and share it with me, and also write nice things in our visitor's book.

William Henry Davies wrote, "What is this life but full of care, we have no time but to stand and stare, etc..." Come and take time to see the trout jumping, the red squirrels, the kingfishers and sometimes a deer or an otter, and fall asleep to the murmur of running water. I won't let the wind blow on you!

The property is on the banks of the Dean Water where you are able to fish. This river forms the boundary between the counties of Angus and Perthshire. The area is bounded by two bridges, one of which was built in 1570 as the result of a murder. The other carries a quiet country road. A Roman camp was situated on the other side of the river. Agricola was the man in charge and helping him was Pontious Pilot who was born in Scotland and served here before being posted to the Middle East and infamy!

The village of Meigle is within walking distance, and it is thought to be the oldest village in Scotland. It boasts a British Prime Minister, a holder of the Victorian Cross, and King Arthur's wife, Guinivere, is buried in our churchyard.

Nearby is possibly one of Scotland's finest castles at Glamis, which was the childhood home of the late Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Within five minutes drive are three golf courses and a little further away are the beautiful Glens of Angus. The cities of Dundee and Perth are twenty minutes away and both are served by rail, whilst Edinburgh and Glasgow airports are one and a half hours away.
